Carseat Cantadas

I realized a few months ago that my girls didn't know songs.
I sang to them many sleepless nights when they were infants, but most of the time we have together now is spent reading, coloring, or playing.
So, I decided to be more intentional about having music playing in the car and singing songs at home.
I don't have a beautiful voice, and my husband can attest to that, but I like to sing. I sing a lot...when he isn't around. The girls don't know any different!

There is no better place than the car to listen to music with your kids. They are trapped without much to do. I got them a Sunday school songs CD for Christmas that we have been wearing out. We had listened to it for a couple weeks when I wondered why I was putting myself through this precious moments CD again if they didn't care a thing about it. (why do they pick such weird voices to sing kids songs?)
Right when I was about to give this cd up, Kaleigh Grace jumped in her carseat and said "I want JOY, JOY." After a few minutes, I figured out that she wanted to listen to "I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart." She could sing the entire first verse. She had been listening all along.
Within the next day, she was asking for "God." After skipping through the tracks, we got to "God is so good." Ok....so now I had figured out 2 of her favorite songs.
But, the next day on the way to church, she demands from her carseat, "I want Jack and Coke!"
GULP!
Where did she learn what Jack and Coke was? We don't drink Jack Daniels. We don't talk about whiskey. How did my 2 year old know to ask for Jack and Coke.
Not until the song came on and she started cheering "Jack and Coke!" did I understand.
Joshua Fought the Battle of JERICHO (jackandcoke).
WHEW! Close call.

Kenlie only knows to ask for this one song but she has it shortened to "Coke."

I am happy to say that we have 2 new praise cds that are much easier on the ears for Lee and me. We even enjoy singing along! Kaleigh Grace now calls them her "new songs." So far, she is liking "ROCK" (Jesus is the ROCK of ages).
Can't wait to here what comes out of her little mouth next!

*Let me know if you have found any good praise cds for your toddlers. Would love some suggestions!

  2. Isn't it just the sweetest sound in the world hearing those babies singing hymns? It has to be one of the sounds we will hear as we walk the streets of heaven! I know my boys love any of the praise music I play-- City on Our Knees, Let the Waters Rise, Walk on Water, All of Creation, and Light Up The Sky (one of my FAVS)!

  3. Oh my! That its too funny. Try explaining that one to your mother-in-law. Lol.
We listen to our church's worship cd in the car. Then when they sing it at church they can sing along. It is so cute, too.

  4. I love the Jack and Coke that is hilarious!! Our church did a praise CD for our preschool and kids ministry. It uses 5 foundational truths that we teach our kids every week. I think the music is pretty catchy. http://www.thevillagechurch.net/resources/music/

I think you can download it or buy it, or I could just grab one at church and send it to you!
